Tracy Anderson | Community High School, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Tracy is in her 23rd year of teaching, including 20 years advising journalism students at Community High School. During her first year of advising, The Communicator was two pages, printed double-sided, and stapled in the upper left-hand corner. Since then, it has evolved into many forms: from a 8.5”x14” with 16 pages to a tabloid with up to 48 pages and now a glossy magazine with 100. Tracy has taught at the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association Summer Workshop for nearly a decade and is currently serving as MIPA’s Digital Media Chair.
The Communicator, in print and online, has won over 600 publication and individual awards. Tracy has been awarded MIPA Golden Pen Adviser of the Year and the University of Chicago Excellence in Teaching Award. She graduated from the University of Michigan and still lives a mile from campus. She loves working with students and staffs and hopes to help as many as she can because our world needs a core of strong journalists.
