Four ways to boost site donations!

Make the most of SNO Donate

If you have SNO Donate activated your site, there are two built-in ways to showcase it:

  1. Display a donation prompt at the end of your stories

Place a SNO Donate widget on your site (like this one)But, as with most things, a few members of our SNO network have found some creative ways to prompt visitors to donate. If you’re looking to maximize your own site donations, check out their ideas below!

First thing’s first!

If you want to try any of the examples below, you’ll probably want to publish a dedicated “Donation Story.” This will give you a unique URL that can be used to direct people to a donation page. It’s up to you if you want to include any other text or photos in the story, but make sure the donation prompt is displayed. We’d also recommend keeping it “Uncategorized.”

Unique Donation Prompts

Option 1: Add an Incentive

Offer some type of incentive if people donate a certain amount to the publication, like free copies of your print issue or a dedicated “Sponsorship” of some sort. Note that this option will require a little extra tracking on your part via your site’s SNO Donate tab.

Option 2: Place a link in your navigation menu(s)

Grab the URL for your Donation Story, then edit whichever navigation menu(s) you want to add it to. Simply select Custom Link as your Menu Item, paste the Donation Story URL, and position it wherever you’d like within the menu.

Option 3: Add a Button

Looking for a little more of a visual pop? Add a button somewhere in your site’s header or footer area that links out to your Donation Story. Choose whatever color, font size, etc. you want to grab people’s attention.

Option 4: Display an Advertisement

Looking for a lot more of a visual pop? Create a graphic prompting visitors to donate and place it in the form of an advertisement that, you guessed it, links to that Donation Story. Depending on the size of the graphic, you can place it in the header, the footer, or in any widget area.
