The SNO Adviser Academy is a comprehensive training workshop for journalism advisers
of all experience levels.

FAQs

What is the schedule like for each day?

Our virtual workshops are split into four half-day sessions.

For the June session (afternoon), we will begin each day at 1 p.m. CDT and conclude around 4 p.m.

For the July session (morning), we will begin each day at 9 a.m. CDT and conclude around noon.

What materials do I need?

You will need a computer with Zoom and reliable internet access. We recommend joining with a computer and working in a quiet, distraction-free space if possible.

You may find it easier to use two different devices if possible — one for viewing the Zoom meeting, and one for completing work on your website.

Lastly, come prepared with something to take notes on. We’ll cover a lot of ground and devote a lot of time to working hands-on with your own website!

What should I do to prepare before my session?

Preparing anything beforehand is not necessary, but here are a few things you may want to think about ahead of time to maximize your Adviser Academy experience.

Take a look at the itinerary (in the tab below) and prepare any specific questions you have.
Get inspired! Take a look at our Award Winner and Design Showcase sites to find ideas and designs you may want to try.
Seek staff input. Is there anything they’d like you to do or implement on the site during the Academy?
Create any new materials you may want to use on the site (like a new graphic logo, for example).

Is there an itinerary I could show my principal?

Can I earn professional development credits for this?

You bet! We’ll be providing 12 hours of training for the virtual workshop. You’ll be able to request a completion certificate as evidence that you made it through successfully.
